Giving Back

IFAA are proud to be able to give back to the community.  The way in which we give back varies from year to year, however here is a snapshot of activities and events that we participate in.

Salvation Army Christmas Appeal

Christmas 2009 saw two teams of IFAA staff participate for the first time in the Salvation Army Christmas appeal.  Staff volunteered to help out with the Corporate Gift Warehouse, assisting with the sorting and distribution of gifts donated through the Kmart Wishing Trees and through our own collection of donations.  Those who participated thoroughly enjoyed the day and the opportunity to make Christmas a little more special for some less-fortunate Queensland families.

IFAA's Biggest Morning Tea

IFAA participate in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea which raises money for the Cancer Council.  The official date for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this year is Thursday 27 May 2010.

Charity / Donations

Over the last 12 months, IFAA have contributed sponsorship for:

  • Mick Young Scholarship
  • Movember
  • Leukaemia Foundation
  • Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Queensland Cancer Fund
  • Surf Lifesavers

IFAA also support the Employee Associations that support the funds that we administer by way of sponsorship each year.  The Employee associations that IFAA provide sponsorship for are:

  • Queensland Independent Education Union (QIEU)
  • Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU)
  • Australian Workers Union (AWU)
  • Electrical Trade Union (ETU)

IFAA staff also participate in a number of sporting events throughout the year:

Nissan/BRW Corporate Triathlons

The BRW Corporate Triathlon has been held for the past 20 years and IFAA has participated in the Gold Coast event for the last 6 years.  Over 14,000 participants around Australia don their corporate colours to complete a 400m swim, 10km cycle and 4km run.  In this year’s event held Saturday 24 April, IFAA entered 5 teams where each triathlete completed all 3 swim, cycle and run legs.  A fantastic achievement – well done triathletes!

Dragon Boat Regattas

Dating back 2,000 years to Southern China, dragon boating is one of the oldest sports in the world.  Since 2004, IFAA has entered teams in various regattas including the Chinese New Year Dragon Boat Regatta on the Brisbane River and the Cancer Council Queensland Dragon Boat Festival at Varsity Lakes.  This year, the Year of the Tiger, our ‘IFAA Super Slayers’ and ‘IFAA Water Dragons’ finished 1st and 5th in the Chinese New Year Dragon Boat Regatta at South Bank.  Well done paddlers!

IFAA Netball team

IFAA sponsors a corporate netball team that competes on a Monday night at the West End Indoor Sports Centre.

IFAA Touch Football team

IFAA sponsors 2 corporate touch football teams, one that competes on a Tuesday night at Shaw Park and another that competes on a Wednesday night at Annerley.

Mothers Day Classic Fun Run/Walk

Held at Southbank Parklands, 14 staff members competed last year in the Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run/Walk and another IFAA group are looking forward to taking part again this year. The event brings together those who have lost someone to breast cancer and those who want to get fit and donate to a worthy cause.  To date, the event has raised over $4million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer.

Bridge to Brisbane

Each year, the Company sponsors staff members in the Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run/Walk.
